Japan Habitat Association (JHA) was founded in 2001 with its main office registered in Tokyo, Japan. JHA is a Japanese government approved NPO and an official partner of UN-HABITAT. The status of “the government approved NPO” has been granted to only about 200 NPO’s among a total of over 40,000 NPO’s in Japan and serves as a criteria of a high degree of trust given to JHA.

JHA’s objective is to help those people around the globe who suffer from problems of housing and infrastructure because of natural disasters, conflicts or poverty. In the past JHA has actively carried out projects in Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Haiti, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. JHA also helped people who suffered from the great earthquake that hit Chuetsu area in the north of Tokyo in 2004.
